CIRCLE RESIDENCY
We are serious about giving emerging, aspiring artists a free, open space to explore the nexus of art, science, and technology. To fulfill that vision, we created the Circle Residency. It is a regularly-held residency in Goa where emerging artists are invited through an open call to explore the world of tech-art. The 4-week residency gives participants hands-on experience with new media tools including projection mapping, algorithmic art, emerging AI-art practices, robotics, and microcontrollers.
Why the name “Circle Residency”?
The residency brings together people from very diverse backgrounds who come together to share knowledge and grow together. It borrows from the ethos of a circular economy. Hence, the name.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Technologists: mathematicians, engineers, software developers, architects, and designers who work with technology to create their work.
Creative artists, including animators, graphic designers, painters, sculpture artists, video artists, mix-media artists, and contemporary artists of any other discipline looking to grow and learn in the tech art space.
Anybody else who is fascinated by the world of tech-art and is keen to collaborate with artists from different backgrounds. You could be a freelance writer or working a 9-5 job in biotech. If you are eager to explore the world of tech-art, or just want to explore your creative side, we encourage you to apply. We are always looking for diversity for the residency, including diversity in work profiles.
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF CIRCLE RESIDENCY?
Circle Residency came into existence to make tech-art more accessible to people in India. Participants get access to Sensistan Lab which is full of fascinating tools. Think Arduinos, Raspberry Pi, bio-sensors, VR kits, projection mapping tools, brain-computer interfaces, motion sensors, we could go on. Residents are free to explore these tools, use them for prototyping and building their art installation
We also have sponsorship opportunities for participants who might need financial assistance. At Sensistan, we always strive to make things as inclusive as possible.
By the end of the residency, participants are expected to build a finished artwork that is showcased at a public art exhibition.
